Fisher reviews his picks for stories numbers 10 to 6 in his Top Family History Stories of 2013. (Starts at 10:33) Guests Brittany Chapman and Ron Fox join the show to talk about the discovery of a 56 year old tape recording of Brittany’s then-103-year-old great great grandmother, Ruth May Fox. Brittany has researched Ruth for years and had just casually mentioned to Ron, a remarkable “finder,” that she would love to hear Ruth’s voice. Brittany tells us about Ruth’s history, and we hear the introduction to the one hour tape.
Ron talks about the process he went through to locate the tape, which had been mentioned in a sources section in the back of a book. Brittany talks about the experience of hearing her ancestor’s voice for the first time. We hear Ruth talk about her first experience with electricity. Ruth recites a poem she wrote as a final message to her family.
Tom Perry, Preservation Authority from TMCPlace.com, talks about remarkable new software that allows you to integrate video, audio, photos, and copy to create your ancestors’ story. Tom also talks about free templates for creating and ordering books using your old photos and writings. To ask a question of Tom, email him at AskTom@tmcplace.com.
