Former Air Force Master Sergeant Melvin Rector, 94, hadn’t been back to England in 70 years, since his days serving in World War II as a radio operator on the famed B-17 “Memphis Belle.” Then, he died.
Nathan Dylan Goodwin is creating a new niche… the “genealogical crime thriller/mystery.” Now writing his fourth in a series, Goodwin visits Extreme Genes this week and talks about what it takes to take historic and genealogical facts, tie them from past to present, add in a mix of fiction, and keep it entertaining. By the way… Fisher loved “The America Ground.”

I’ve always thought I was a pretty passionate genie. Then I learned about Roy Schreffler of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He’s on the show this weekend, and on the podcast this coming week. Here’s his story…
Gotta tell you… the odd thing is that three days sometimes feels like FOREVER! But at the same time, it felt like it wasn’t long enough! So much to do, see, and learn. Thanks to everyone who came by the Extreme Genes booth to say “hello” and talk about our shared love of family histoire. I was looking for the perfect picture to wrap this with, and found this from Judy Russell’s (“The Legal Genealogist”) keynote address on Friday. She really made it very clear the importance of documenting our lines… that it basically ends any arguments or discussions. It’s not good enough that you’ve seen it and you’re convinced. Others need to know why your data is what it is. Here’s Judy and her list! Lot’s of great RootsTech interviews coming in the weeks ahead on Extreme Genes!
The south end of the Salt Palace is pretty quiet right now. Getting ready for some great keynotes on DNA, the legality issues of genealogy, etc. In the exhibition hall this pic shows the area you can get free soda (rear) and hop on a computer and try out that newfangled web thingie! (It’ll never last!) Seriously, the FamilySearch volunteers do a great job of assisting even the earliest of beginners. It’s a great time, with visitors from 49 states (where are you South Dakota?!) and over 30 countries. Good chance to brush up on your second and third languages! #RootsTech
Want to learn about the latest family history app? Want to just relax and catch a few z’s before getting back on your journey of discovery? This is where it happens. When the doors open to the floor again in just a little bit, you can do those things right here. Look at those cushy chairs? How’s anybody supposed to get anything done?! #RootsTech
